Shackleford, John Ernest
John Ernest Shackleford Dies After Short Illness
Stricken with pneumonia a few days ago, John Ernest Shackleford, aged 20 years, passed away Sunday morning at his home, 1206 Vance Avenue.
Johnnie, as the young man was familiarly know, was formerly file clerk for The News. He was always faithful in the discharge of his duties and did his work efficiently and well. He possessed a bright, genial disposition that endeared him to officials and employees of the paper. Ill health forced him to give up his position, but he responded to medical treatment and attention and was soon on the road to recovery. For some time he was secretary to the local agent of the department of justice. He also got out The Daily Record, a paper containing court proceedings, real estate transfers and legal items. A few months ago he accepted the position of stenographer in the office of the United States District Court Clerk and was at his post of duty when pneumonia laid its hold upon him.
John Ernest Shackeford was a talented musician and was much in demand at parties and entertainments. Words of praise of his ability were accepted by him with that spirit of modesty which characterized him.
He was popular among a host of friends, who will be shocked to learn of his death. He was on the very threshold of promising young manhood and a bright future lay before him. He sought to make the best of opportunities and to improve himself in every way possible.
Surviving him are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Shackleford; three brothers, H. R., O. L. and W. B. Shackleford, and a sister, Mrs. Gay Park.
Funeral services, conducted by Reverends Wright and Hale, will be held from the residence Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock, with Forest Hills Cemetery as the place of interment.
Pallbearers are announced as Denton Bass, Clifford Wilkerson, Ransom Pirtie, Hilton Kroger, John Dodds and Carl Barham.
