Request Hamilton County Obituaries from The HCTGS

Copies  of  Hamilton County obituaries published in the Chattanooga Times and Chattanooga Free Press for the years 1897 through 2002, may be obtained through the Hamilton County Genealogical Society.  The fee for this service is:

1 - 4 obituaries - $5.00 Each
$2.00 for each additional obituary over four.

If we are unable to locate an obituary, your payment will be retained for the search and notification will be sent by e-mail.

You can search the Chattanooga - Hamilton County Library obituary database to locate available names and dates of publication. Then make your request for copies using one of the methods listed below.

The library database is an index to obituaries in Chattanooga newspapers from 1897 to the present. Deaths for the current year will not appear in the database until the following year. The index provides the name of the deceased, newspaper name, and date of the obituary.

Entries in the database prior to 1951 were made on a selective basis. If the obituary you request is not in the index we will search the newspaper only if an exact death date (month, day and year) is provided. If no obituary is located the fee will be retained for the search.
